The
fundamental reason that this position exists is to accurately account for and
maintain a fixed asset accounting inventory for the city. Fixed assets encompass a wide range of items,
including buildings, automobiles, sanitation trucks and their attachments,
land, roads, streetlights, zoo animals, and right-of-way. The accountant’s major work responsibilities
include obtaining and processing fixed asset data, evaluating the data,
reconciling it, and preparing documentation. The fixed assets accountant
differs from other accountant classifications in that the fixed asset
accountant requires specialized knowledge and experience rather than general
accounting knowledge and experience. This classification reports to the Fixed
Assets Manager.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance and
three (3) years of experience in accounting with an emphasis in fixed assets. Public
sector experience is a plus.
