Assistant Payroll Manager (#CI0501)

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to assist the Payroll Manager in the technical and supervisory work within the payroll division of the City’s Finance Department.  The essential functions are: supervises the generation, verification and distribution of payroll and vendor checks and the audit of all City payrolls; supervises the processing and maintenance of all paperwork pertaining to employee status, benefits, deductions and tax withholdings; and assists the Payroll Manager in the supervision and training of clerical employees and acts in the absence of the Payroll Manager.  Work involves the supervision of clerical employees to ensure the accuracy of data entry and processing of employee deductions. Supervision is received from the Payroll Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources Management or a related field and two years of experience preparing payrolls on an automated system; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis.    

NOTE:    Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
