The
fundamental reason this position exists is to identify and investigate
businesses, operating both inside and outside the
City of Montgomery, that lack a physical or in-store presence, but are still
subject to local tax and licensing laws. The Revenue Investigator plays a vital
role in detecting and recovering lost revenue, ensuring compliance with City
ordinances, and promoting fairness among all business operations. The work
responsibilities involve conducting independent research and analyzing business
activity. This classification reports to the License and Revenue Supervisor.
A High School Diploma or G.E.D., and four (4)
years of experience in revenue compliance, financial investigation, and delinquent tax. Business license account resolution is a plus. Must demonstrate the ability
to conduct independent research using public records, online sources, or
business data, and apply relevant tax laws and business licensing requirements
to various business models.
NOTE: Qualifying
education, training, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge,
skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must be able to pass the
Revenue Investigator Examination within six (6) months of employment.
