The fundamental reason this position exists is to support the City of
Montgomery’s Information Technology Security Operations by monitoring,
analyzing, and responding to cybersecurity threats. The work responsibilities
include ensuring the security, integrity, and availability of the City's
network, systems, and data by identifying vulnerabilities, enforcing security
policies, and assisting with incident response. This role conducts security
audits, monitors security events, and collaborates with IT teams and
third-party vendors to ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards. The
position also plays a key role in investigating security incidents, providing
security awareness training, and supporting the implementation of security
controls and best practices. This classification reports to an IT Manager.
A
bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity,
or a related field and four (4) years of experience in IT security, cybersecurity
operations, or network security, including experience monitoring security
systems, analyzing threats, and responding to incidents; familiarity with
compliance standards such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology
(NIST) and ISO 27001; and proficiency with security information and event
management (SIEM) tools, firewalls, and endpoint security solutions.

provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
CERTIFICATION PREFERENCE:
Preferred certifications include Certified
Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information
Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), GIAC
Security Essentials (GSEC), Cisco Certified CyberOps Associate, Cisco Certified
Network Associate Security (CCNA Security), and Cisco Meraki Solutions
Specialist.
Other
relevant networking certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate
(CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Security, and Fortinet
Network Security Expert (NSE) certifications are also preferred.
