Introduction
The Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse,
bilingual community who in partnership with families, provides an equitable and
exemplary education in a nurturing, engaging, and challenging environment to
ensure our students achieve personal excellence and become lifelong
learners. As such, we are looking for dedicated individuals who can
join us in the education of the children at MSD.
This is a twelve-month position in the Career
& Technical Education (CTE) Department of the Frederick Campus of the Maryland
School for the Deaf.

Main Purpose of Job
To lead and grow MSD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program; provide progressive education, leadership, and supervision of staff and students of the CTE program in partnership with the High School Department and Transition Services.
POSITION DUTIES
Provide models of effective teaching strategies to
instructional staff;
Participate in the development, implementation, and
maintenance of Maryland’s College and Career Readiness Standards in technical
subjects;
Manage complex changes to align curriculum, instruction,
and assessment to ensure students are learning at high levels;
Participate in the maintenance of Bilingual Education
concepts throughout the School;
Evaluate job performance of team leaders, teachers, and
teacher aides;
Assist in the development and implementation of IEPs and
participate in IEP meetings;
Assist in the assessment of staff needs and providing
staff development;
Participate in the coordination of class scheduling,
course development, and teacher assignments;
Participate in the review of applications, interview
applicants, and submit recommendations for hire of new CTE staff to fill multiple
new positions that will populate MSD’s growing CTE program;
Align all program growth with Maryland’s Blueprint to meet College and Career
Ready Standards, Maryland State Diploma, and Career & Technical Education
pathway, as well as to stay up to date with the ever evolving economy, labor
market, and technological innovations for which students must be prepared;
Direct and assist in management of student behavior;
Create and post positions, develop and maintain
collaborative relationships with community partners to further student learning
and trade experience;
And assume other responsibilities as designated
by the Chief Educational Programs Officer.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Master's Degree in the Education of Deaf students, Education of Deaf students with additional disabilities, or related field required.
Experience: A minimum of three years of successful classroom
teaching experience with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students is required.
Maryland State Department of Education Administrator
II Certification/Licensure required (or the ability to obtain in a specific
time). Understanding of basic behavior principles and school wide
behavior programs and interventions required. Fluency in American Sign Language
and written English, and knowledge of Deaf community required. Superior
interpersonal and active listening skills required.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in administration/supervision preferred.
Experience in leadership activities that involve organizing,
planning, directing, and monitoring resources preferred.
Experience teaching Career and Technical courses at the
middle school or high school level preferred.
Knowledge of educational strategies for Deaf students with
additional needs preferred.
Experience in developing community-based
opportunities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
