Introduction

Main Purpose of Job
The purpose of this position is to organize and foster a positive, safe
environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff and parents. This
includes such responsibilities as: leading, directing, counseling, and supervising a variety of personnel
and programs; creating effective parent, teacher, child communications; supporting, encouraging,
mentoring, and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and parents;
and managing resources.
POSITION DUTIES
This position is responsible for the daily operations of the Elementary Department
that entails daily coverage, subbing, the support of the department’s needs, and the maintenance of
daily schedules. In addition to operating the department, this includes serving students, teachers, staff,
and families. Duties include assistance in hiring/orientation of new faculty, observation and evaluation
of staff, the direction of staff/department meetings, the planning and implementation of the
professional development training and in-service events, and the coordination of staff assignments and student placements. This position takes responsibilities in creating and improving the school’s master
schedule, arranging school functions, supporting the bilingual education philosophy and bilingual
instructional strategies, assisting with classroom management, promoting consistent discipline within
the school, enforcing the IEP implementation and data collection, supervising state and local
standardized testing to ensure compliance with established processes and policies, and monitoring
weekly units and lesson plans that include appropriate educational objectives, strategies, and
activities. This position includes adhering to the school’s school safety protocols, progressive
disciplinary action, due process, as well as monitoring and maintaining student and staff well-being,
including attendance and progress reports. This position collaborates closely with the Campus Chief
Educational Programs Officer (CEPO) and its office as well as with other programs in the school. May
be asked to assume other duties as assigned by CEPO.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Master’s degree in Education of Deaf students, Education of Deaf students with additional disabilities or Special Education required.
Experience: Three years of successful classroom teaching experience with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students required. Must be fluent in American Sign Language and written English. Superior interpersonal and active listening skills required.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of Deaf Community is preferred.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Must
hold or be eligible to obtain the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)
Administrator I certification in the required timeframe.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject to a criminal background
investigation at their own expense.
