Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual

join us in the education of the children at MSD.
This is a part-time contractual position - up to 4 hours a
week, following the school calendar.
Both in-person and remote work and travel between campuses are expected.
LOCATION OF POSITION
This position will be primarily located at the Columbia Campus,
but applicants must be willing to work at both the Columbia and Frederick
Campuses.

Main Purpose of Job
The purpose of this position is to consult the school’s Language and Literacy Planning and Policy
(LLPP) Team on the development, implementation, and evaluation of American Sign Language
(ASL) and English bilingual education professional development and language and literacy planning
and policy.
POSITION DUTIES
This position is responsible for supporting the
LLPP Team by providing consultation services in the areas of the development
and the evaluation of the ASL and English bilingual education professional development
training materials. This position includes guiding the team with research
information supporting accurate terminology use and language use for language
and literacy training materials, reviewing existing language policies and
practices, providing evidence-based recommendations for language and literacy
planning and policy (LLPP), and guiding the development of comprehensive
frameworks and action plans that address ASL and English bilingual education.
This role involves participating in the LLPP Team and attending training
sessions to provide support with the implementation of LLPP. This position
conducts research and discussion, analysis and application of ASL and English
bilingual education research practices, and recommends evidence-based ASL and
English bilingual methodologies. This position participates in the peer review
process for LLPP training materials.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Language Policy,
Education, Special Education of Deaf students, or a related field.
Experience:
Fluency in American Sign Language and written English is required. Significant
experience in language policy development, language planning or language
education in the area of ASL and English bilingual education is required.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual candidates are preferred. Strong
analytical and research skills with the ability to make policy recommendations
and to provide resources for language planning is preferred. To show a deep
understanding of cultural and linguistic diversity is desired.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
