Introduction

Maryland Public Television, commonly known as MPT, is a public television network that broadcasts throughout the entire state of Maryland and the District of Columbia and into parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is Maryland's only statewide broadcaster. Headquartered in Owings Mills, MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and is a producer of both locally and nationally distributed TV programs and digital content.

Main Purpose of Job

The Facilities and Maintenance Technician performs duties to maintain the safe and efficient operation of MPT's HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems including routine preventative maintenance. Also maintains the facility's physical appearance and grounds keeping. The Maintenance Mechanic also assists with moving furniture, general and small equipment repairs and other general maintenance duties. The Maintenance mechanic also maintains inventory and possibly supervises outside contractors on special projects. Note: Incumbent must be willing to work a flexible work schedule which may include nights, weekends and/or holidays. This position requires some outdoor work which may occur during unfavorable weather conditions and basic computer skills. Incumbent must possess a valid MD driver's license and the ability to lift 50 pounds.

POSITION DUTIES

· Maintain the facilities, plumbing,  steam pipes and fittings and  makes minor repairs to fixtures.

· Checks and maintains all sewer lines, cleans traps and changes filters.

· Work with and help the facilities staff on special projects such as painting, electrical repairs, set-ups for meetings, courier services, and other duties as assigned.

· Maintain and monitor the HVAC system.

· Maintain inventory of plumbing supplies and any necessary plumbing equipment or supplies needed to keep the facilities operating.

· Make minor repairs to electrical equipment and building structures.

· Work with the Facilities Staff doing snow/ice removal and other emergencies 

· Completing work orders in a timely fashion

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance trades to include two (2) years experience in plumbing, refrigeration or air-conditioning.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must be provided prior to hire.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

This position requires some outdoor work which may occur during unfavorable weather conditions.
