This is a SPECIAL APPOINTMENT position with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. The incumbent serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

POSITION DUTIES

To instruct a designed curriculum within the assigned Field Training Officer (FTO) program in order to ensure compliance with standards established by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC). The incumbent will also work on special training projects as assigned by the Assistant Director of Correctional Training. This position will serve as a back-up for the online pre-service training for new recruits. This position requires that an individual be able to multi-task and consistently meet strict deadlines.

Serves to primarily assist the Statewide Field Training Manager through instruction of the FTO Program, communication with field FTO supervisors, coordination of training schedule, policy review and tracking of training.

Serves as an instructor in the CTU (academy, in-service, etc.) and on special training projects when needed as instructed by the Assistant Director.

Serves as the primary back-up for the distribution, tracking and monitoring of the on-line pre-service training for newly-hired Departmental employees.

Attends, participates and contributes in meaningful ways to regular on-going meetings with Field Training Supervisors by providing feedback and suggestions.

Data collection and reporting: The incumbent shall collect and collapse into a reporting document all pertinent statistical data and complete projects as assigned by Statewide Field Training Manager.

Perform other duties as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum (and selective) qualifications to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying.

Education:  Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of administrative staff or professional work in a correctional setting or for a public safety agency, and  one year of experience planning, developing, teaching, and implementing continuing education programming.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must possess a valid Academic Instructor Certification under COMAR 12.04.04 or 12.10.06 or must be able to achieve such certification within six months of beginning employment.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Intermediate or Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint experience.

Intermediate or Advanced Microsoft Word experience.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

· Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)
