This recruitment will be used to fill a Resource Teacher position at the Western Maryland Children's Center. Candidates with secondary education Conditional, Standard Professional, Advance Professional, Advance Professional +30, or Advance Professional +60 Certification in Secondary Education are welcome to apply. 

Candidates who do not have a current active Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certification are required to complete and submit a certification application at Apply for Certification before applying to this recruitment.

Main Purpose of Job

This position provides instruction to students by planning and implementing instructional lessons using instructional strategies that meet the needs of all students. The incumbent will provide and maintain an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students. The incumbent will monitor and evaluate student performance, develop and implement plans to improve student performance, maintain required records, and follow required procedures and practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.

Experience: None.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a MSDE Secondary Education Educator License.

** Please Note: Candidates who do not immediately meet this requirement may become eligible by applying for a Maryland Teaching license at Apply for MSDE Certification.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. At least one year of teaching experience, which may include internship experience.

2. At least two years of experience providing and maintaining an atmosphere and environment conducive to students' intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Teachers employed in state-operated school programs must obtain and maintain teaching certification in the State of Maryland, as mandated by Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2).

Candidates recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials as part of the hiring process.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to Substance Abuse Testing as outlined in Code of Maryland Regulation (COMAR) 17.04.09, which addresses the testing for illegal drug use.

As part of the hiring process, applicants must consent to State Police and Child Protective Services (CPS) investigations/background checks, which are standard procedures for all employees working in State Juvenile Services facilities.

Proof of eligibility to work in the United States, as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act, must be provided upon hire.

Additionally, employment is contingent upon obtaining at least a Conditional Maryland Teaching Certificate. If it is determined after hiring that the incumbent does not qualify for this certification or fails to obtain and maintain the appropriate Maryland Teaching Certificate, employment will be terminated.
