Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor, (MDOL), Division of Workforce Development & Adult Learning - Correctional Education unit is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Special Education Instructor - Teacher Advanced Professional Certificate. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year after the closing date of the announcement.

Main Purpose of Job

To deliver specialized instructional services to assigned students in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEP's), ensuring compliance with state and federal regulation while fostering academic, social, and emotional growth in a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
      • Provide individualized and group instruction to meet academic, vocational, and behavorial goals outline in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
      • Create, review, and update IEP's in compliance with state and federal guideline, ensuring that accommaodations and modifications are appropriately addressed. 
      • Conduct assessments, track progress toward IEP goals, and document outcones to support education growth and compliance with regulations. 
      • Work with colleagues, administators, and external agencies to ensure cohesive support for student success and goal attainment. 
      • Ensure instuctional practices, assessments, and docuement comply with state and federal laws, regulations, and institutional policies. 
      • Attend workshops, training sessions, and other professional learning opportunities to stay updated on best practice in special education. 

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

      Education:   Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.

      Experience: None.

      DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
      1. A valid State of Maryland Teaching License with an endorsement in Special Education or eligibility to obtain one.
      2. Experience in Teaching Diverse Populations.
      3. Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills.
      4. Experience in IEP Case Management.

      LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

      Teachers in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials.       SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

      All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
