Unpaid Fall Internship - Seasonal Ranger Volunteer Intern
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites eligible candidates to apply for an internship with the Maryland Park Service. This opportunity will provide hands-on experience in the park system. This Seasonal Ranger Volunteer opportunity offers hands-on experience in park operations and natural resource management. As a Seasonal Volunteer Ranger, you will assist park staff with a variety of duties, including visitor services, environmental education, trail maintenance, and resource protection. This role is ideal for those interested in conservation, outdoor recreation, or gaining experience in the park system while helping ensure a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience for all park visitors.

LOCATION OF POSITION
Rocks State Park and Susquehanna State Park, 3318 Rocks Chrome Hill Road, Jarrettsville, MD 21084 - HARFORD COUNTY
Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position requires good communication skills and the ability to work outdoors in a
variety of weather conditions. Duties will vary depending on the needs of the park and time of year, but will
include:
● Assisting with daily park operations
● Maintain trails and park facilities
● Greeting visitors and providing general information
● General stewardship of park resources
● Safe operation of state vehicles & equipment
● Assisting ranger and maintenance staff with daily functions and special projects
● Helping to ensure the park is a safe environment for visitors
● Obtain Park Service trainings as needed (Basic First Aid, Vehicle Safety, etc.)
The internship runs 26 weeks between November through May. The specific start/end dates, hours, and
schedule will be determined in collaboration between the intern and supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A driver’s license. (Please attach this to your online application)
- A GPA of 2.5 or above is required for academic credit.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Parks and Recreation or similarly related degree is preferred, but not required.
- Ability to work in varied weather conditions.
- Weekend availability and being able to work a rotating schedule.
