Summer Student Worker: Commercial Fisheries Harvest Reporting Intern
Part-Time: 24 hours per week 
 
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites eligible candidates to apply for an internship with the Fisheries Data and Quota Monitoring Division of the Fishing and Boating Services Unit.  This opportunity will provide hands-on experience in Fisheries Data Management.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to support the Commercial Harvest Reporting Group within the Unit’s Fisheries Data Management and Quota Monitoring Division. The position will also provide assistance with customer service, database management, the E-Reporting with FACTS electronic harvest reporting program, and the receipt, computer entry, and organization of commercial fishing reports. The work will involve entering harvest information into computer software programs, accessing a web-based harvest reporting system, interaction with commercial harvesters over the phone and in person, sorting and organizing large quantities of mail, and filing.

The internship runs 13 weeks between June and September. The specific start/end dates, hours, and schedule will be determined in collaboration between the intern and supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must be a current college student, undergraduate or graduate level. A GPA of 2.5 or above is required for academic credit. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience performing clerical duties and providing customer service and support.
  • Experience working with web-based user interfaces (UI). 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access), Google Suite tools (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets), and virtual meeting software.
