Main Purpose of Job

The Accounting Unit in the Budget & Financial Administration Division of the MD State Treasurer’s Office is responsible for agency specific as well as statewide accounting functions essential to the daily operations of State government.  The general accounting functions of the unit include processing vendor invoices, cash receipt deposits, and agency payroll; maintenance of all financial records, fund balance reconciliations, & preparation of year-end closing records; and the development and implementation of all accounting controls and procedures.

 

This position provides administrative accounting services which impact agencies across the State by supporting daily operations for the CFO and the accounting team. This involves tasks such as bank/check deposits, recording financial transactions, reconciling bank statements, preparing financial reports, and organizing emails for Leadership. By performing these duties, the Treasury Accounting Associate helps the company maintain financial accuracy, comply with regulations, and help provide analysis for making informed financial decisions. Additionally, they support the finance team by handling administrative tasks and resolving billing or payment issues, contributing to the overall financial health and success of the department.

 

This is an entry level position within the Accounting Unit of the State Treasurer’s Office. The Treasury Associate I classification is one level in a non-competitive promotion series, in which an employee may advance in grade and class level from intermediate to a full performance, through work experience and competency.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education  Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience in performing secretarial or clerical work in an office environment. 

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Six months of the required experience should be performing secretarial or clerical duties in an accounting or fiscal setting.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (not required):

  • Candidate has taken accounting/fiscal courses or trainings.
  • Experience with organizing and maintaining financial records.
  • Advanced skills in Excel.
  • Knowledge of general accounting functions.
  • State of Maryland accounting support and/or R*STARS experience.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Applicants must be willing to work in the Annapolis area.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates will be subject to a background investigation to include driving, credit and criminal history.

Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.
