Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Finance and Administrative Services. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

Main Purpose of Job

Duties include management of the Accounts Payable Department, ensuring continuity of operations with payables throughout the agency, ensuring prompt and accurate payment to vendors. Also, management of the fixed assets program involving the communication with DGS, and monthly tracking and coding of expenditures including the final entry for fiscal year end close of fixed assets. This position also handles general accounting report preparation. This includes the preparation of the monthly late payment report, monthly accuracy in expense account approvals and monthly capital expense review. This position is cross-trained in all accounts payable duties to provide additional support as needed to ensure consistently smooth functioning of the Finance and Administrative Services program of DNR.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.

Experience: Four years of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles.

Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 4 additional years of administrative experience for the required education.
2. Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1,1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.
3. Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or a Master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
4. Applicants may substitute one year of professional auditing experience for one year of accounting experience.
5. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Accounting Officer classification or Financial Management specialty codes in the Accounting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience using the Statewide accounting system applications.
  • Customer service experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
