The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State’s legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. This position offers a salary range of $64,984 - $95,059, with potential for advancement up to $104,954 over time based on longevity and increased responsibilities. Initial salary offers are determined by qualifications, experience, equity, and available budget, and will not exceed $95,059.

Main Purpose of Job
The Maryland Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is deeply committed to ensuring public safety, making it one of his top priorities. In pursuit of this goal, OAG recently expanded its Criminal Division, building a stronger and more dynamic team. This expanded team works closely with local, state, and federal partners to tackle critical issues such as violence, the opioid epidemic, fraud, corruption, and environmental hazards, all while safeguarding Marylanders. The Criminal Division team includes 50 dedicated people including 35 attorneys and 15 legal professionals. We are looking for talented, dedicated individuals to join this vital effort and become part of our team!
The OAG’s Criminal Division is seeking applicants for an Investigator position. This position will, at least initially, focus primarily on the Attorney General’s ongoing investigations of child sexual abuse by clergy in Maryland. The Investigator will be expected to assist in those investigations by locating and contacting victims, conducting numerous interviews of victims and witnesses, serving subpoenas, performing extensive record and document reviews and analysis, and supporting the Criminal Division prosecutions with any court matters related to the investigation, among other duties.
Although this investigator will primarily focus on clergy abuse cases, they may also be called upon to assist with all the Criminal Division’s needs, including handling investigations in the Environmental and Natural Resources Crimes Unit (ENRCU), the Fraud and Corruption Unit (FCU), and the Organized Crime Unit (OCU). In this role, the Investigator will help develop investigative plans and will assist and support the Division’s prosecutors through all stages of the investigation and prosecution. The Investigator will be expected to serve subpoenas, conduct surveillance, draft search warrants, conduct interviews, review evidence, and write reports among other duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
At least 5 years of experience leading criminal investigations or other relevant investigative or law enforcement experience. Experience interviewing victim-survivors, maintaining relationships with victim-survivors, and writing thorough reports. The ideal candidate will also have a passion for helping victim-survivors, strong abilities to build and maintain relationships with victims, witnesses, and law enforcement.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have:
• Experience in specifically investigations and prosecutions of child sexual abuse and/or other special victims’ crimes, and will have had in-depth training in relevant areas, including trauma-informed training and general child sexual abuse or sexual assault investigations training.
• Experience working with electronic evidence and electronic database systems.
• Experience conducting investigations in contemplation of litigation; at a level of reliability, consistency, thoroughness, and with the necessary documentation that the evidence can withstand scrutiny in court.
