Introduction
The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State’s legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness.
GRADE
17 - This position offers a salary range of $31.16/hour – $45.58/hour, with potential for advancement up to $50.32/hour based on qualifications, equity, and hiring guidelines. Initial salary offers are determined by qualifications, experience, and available budget, and typically do not exceed $45.58/hour.

Main Purpose of Job
OAG is seeking applicants for an Executive Assistant in the Office of the General Counsel within the Executive Division. The Office of the General Counsel provides legal advice and counsel to the OAG, the largest law firm in the State.
POSITION DUTIES
The Executive Assistant will work closely with the General Counsel and Associate General Counsel in the following areas:
General Support
• Assist in scheduling meetings for general counsel (GC) and associate general counsel (AGC)
• Provide general administrative support as needed for GC,AGC, and Executive Division Leadership (as assigned)
Ethics and Standards of Practice
• Respond to initial ethics inquiries by providing required forms and written guidance needed for further handling by GC or AGC
• Conduct searches of online databases for relevant information needed to resolve inquiries, summarizing results on checklists
• Follow-up with OAG staff to obtain missing information needed to respond to ethics inquiries
Assistant Counsel Matters
• Maintain excel spreadsheet and electronic files on all assistant counsel contracts and related documents including governor’s letters, RFPs, proposals, contracts, contract affidavits, and task orders
• Using templates, prepare first drafts of assistant counsel related documents, such as RFPs, contracts, and task orders
• Communicate with OAG staff to obtain information needed for solicitations
• Conduct research and compile lists of law firms with expertise in specific subject areas to be sent RFPs
• Maintain and refresh lists of minority partners, minority law firms, and minority associations to receive RFPs
• Correspond with law firms during RFP and contracting process, as needed, to obtain documents and information
• Disseminate conflict waiver requests to relevant OAG units, collecting input as needed
Public Information Act
• Serve as PIA representative for incoming OAG PIA requests • Log and track requests, interim and final correspondence, in database
• Route PIA requests to appropriate OAG unit or division for handling
• Compile documents from relevant staff for requests directed to Executive Division, or involving multiple OAG divisions
• Work with GC and AGC to prepare 10-day letters and final responses to requests being handled centrally
• Maintain electronic files of all requests and documents produced.
This position may be responsible for other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in administrative and program operations support, preferably in a legal, regulatory or other professional setting, but candidates with less than 5 years of experience are eligible to apply.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should have strong organizational and communications skills, and be comfortable working with spreadsheets and database program and other technology tools.

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
