Introduction

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency (MLGCA) serves as one of the largest revenue sources for the State of Maryland, supporting important state programs and services including education, public health and safety, human resources and the environment. In addition to generating revenue from the sale of lottery products, the MLGCA is also responsible for the oversight of the state’s casino gaming program, providing direction and guidance to its casino partners on financial, security, regulatory and licensing procedures for the facilities. The Agency also regulates Sports Wagering, Daily Fantasy Sports and Electronic Bingo, as well as Instant Ticket Lottery Machines, which are located at almost 90 Veteran’s posts. Gaming in Maryland is a dynamic and growing business that operates around the clock, 365 days of the year.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to manage the Gaming Accounting Department; including the Gaming Accountant Supervisor II and the Accountant Advanced positions. This Department is responsible for the day to day accounting activities for the State’s six casinos, Sports Wagering mobile and retail operations and Fantasy Competition operations. This includes the daily calculation, reconciliation and collection of the gross terminal tax revenue and table game tax revenue, monthly reconciliation of tax revenue received for Sports Wagering and quarterly tax revenue received for Fantasy Sports. This position is responsible for various reporting including the creation of the monthly casino press release, the monthly sports wagering press release, the quarterly Fantasy Sports Director’s Report update, legislative or requested ad hoc reporting. This position manages the casino license escrow accounts for the six casinos. Manages the release of the associated license batches for background license applications for all gaming operations personnel. This position is responsible for the daily bank gaming wire receipts (Previous Day reports) and all supporting documentation. Also, responsible for initiating all gaming revenue allocations as well as future strategic initiatives.

POSITION DUTIES

As part of the Accounting and Finance Department, this position manages the professional staff of the Gaming Accounting Department.  This includes the maintaining and organizing documentation; coordination with various personnel (internal and external); and oversight over the State’s gaming accounting departments.  Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for managing the reconciling of various transactional activity and performing corrective actions.  Must be able to present information clearly and concisely; exercise judgment and discretion; and will work on sensitive and confidential projects as well as future strategic initiatives. Time management is crucial due to strict deadlines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Accounting or a related field or Certified Public Accountant.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications: 

 1.  Experience of 5-8 years in reconciling transactional activity. 
 2.     Experience of 5-8 years of direct supervision of employees. 
 3.     Experience of 3-5 years in casino, sports wagering, and/or fantasy gaming accounting.
