POSITION DUTIES

This position is a Zero Trust/IAM Engineer within the Information Technology Division and is a senior technical role in the development, implementation, and performance of the Comptroller of Maryland (COM) Zero Trust program. The primary purpose of this position is to manage, plan, implement, and integrate COM’s current infrastructure and applications to align with the Zero Trust Model. You will be help assess and select key cornerstone solutions for Identity and Access Management, Device Management, & Network Access. You will ensure new and current solutions are compatible and integrate easily and configured to industry standards and regulatory requirements.

The position will be responsible for troubleshooting, operations & maintenance, solution design and implementation, providing technical support and optimizing IT solutions around Zero Trust. This includes coordinating, providing guidance and support to personnel either at COM, other agencies, vendors, and other visitors with connecting and using the audio-visual solutions. The position will assist with ensuring that devices are kept within posture requirements and remediation of vulnerabilities as they appear in the environment. As a key member of the technical team, translate business and cybersecurity related requirements into zero trust specifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Two years of experience maintaining and modifying operating systems for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers.

NOTES:

  1. Candidates may substitute thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or other information technology related field to include course work in machine or assembler computer languages, and operating system and data communication technology for multipurpose multi-tasking computers for one year of the required experience.
  2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or other information technology related field to include course work in machine or assembler computer languages, and operating system and data communication technology for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers and one year of experience maintaining and modifying operating systems for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers for the required experience.
  3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Computer Systems Operations classifications or Computer Systems Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, cybersecurity, computer science or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in IT Operations or cybersecurity, including 3+ years of experience with government or highly regulated industry.
  • Experience working with zero trust security architecture and zero standing privileges including frameworks, components, technical solutions, and principles.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry security standards, including NIST SP 800-207, NIST SP 800-37, NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-63, CIS Benchmarks, and IRS Pub. 1075.
  • Ability to keep abreast with latest security technologies, the current threat landscape, and evolving Federal and State security policies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID or similar IAM solution. 
  • Experience with managing B2B and B2C identity solutions including user verification.
  • Experience with Tanium, MECM/Intune, PDQ or similar endpoint management solution.
  • Experience with Zscaler, MDCA, or similar ZTNA solution.
