POSITION DUTIES
- Installs, tests, debugs, troubleshoots, and maintains new and revised application software. Research, design, and recommend infrastructure technology to management and coordinate network and telecommunication projects with vendors and users.
- Documents and maintains operating system or application system procedures and network diagrams, including revisions, and informs appropriate personnel as necessary.
- Monitor and maintain the Agency’s servers, and other components of the IT infrastructure. Performs activities that include planning, configuration, installation, administration, monitoring, and maintenance of a VMware environment, Windows servers, desktop support, and related applications. Install new software releases and system upgrades, evaluate and install patches, and resolve software/hardware related problems. The position maintains data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity.
- Resolves issues related to operating systems and application procedures with staff and systems users, and update and close support tickets. Provide technical support and guidance to users and is responsible for backup and recovery procedures.
- Assist with the reconfiguring of existing servers, or installing new servers, and configuring hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc in accordance with standards and operational requirements. Assists in the development of the strategic direction of the network infrastructure for both current and future needs.
- Research and perform periodic performance reporting, and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks and capacity planning. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
- Act as the backup to the Network and Systems engineers and ensure business continuity of the applications and infrastructure. This includes backing up and maintaining the configurations of network devices, updating firewall rulesets, updating VLAN information on network switches and routers, and managing wireless access points.
- Develop and maintain an internal intranet website to include a repository for policies and procedures, the monthly newsletter, business unit descriptions and staff contact information, and more.
- Repair and recover from hardware and software failures and security events. Review system logs to identify any possible intrusions or abnormal activity. Coordinate and communicate with impacted business units and IT staff.
- Inventory technical equipment including
system and software configurations and network addressing; ensure that
software license agreements are current and accurate in accordance with Agency
policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Provide support to other division staff members.
- Travel to remote office locations for network software and hardware support.
- Be available outside of business hours
for support and planned maintenance activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Two years of experience maintaining and modifying operating systems for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or other information technology related field to include course work in machine or assembler computer languages, and operating system and data communication technology for multipurpose multi-tasking computers for one year of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute experience operating multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining a tape library to process data on multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using third generation or other generally accepted computer programming languages; or designing, developing and maintaining communications networks on a year-for-year basis for a high school education.
3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or other information technology related field to include course work in machine or assembler computer languages, and operating system and data communication technology for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers and one year of experience maintaining and modifying operating systems for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers for the required experience.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Computer Systems Operations classifications or Computer Systems Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
