The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. We are one of the largest departments in Maryland with nearly 12,000 employees and a budget of more than $1 billion. In order to fulfill our mission of promoting safety, we have increased security at our institutions while leading the way in innovative restorative justice projects that will help offenders reintegrate into society upon release.

LOCATION OF POSITION
POSITION DUTIES
- Supervise defendants to ensure their compliance with the court-ordered conditions of release;
- Prepare supervision reports and revocation requests on defendants under supervision in order to advise the court of their level of compliance;
- Perform risk assessments to determine level of supervision and/or risk of flight;
- Review charging documents and Initial Appearance forms;
- Make referrals to the Addictions Assessment Unit;
- Interview defendants to obtain background information and to explain the requisite rules and regulations of community supervision;
- Accurately document all relevant information obtained during the interview;
- Organize all case file contents;
- Advise defendants of all scheduled court hearings and program appointments, via face to face contact, by telephone or through the utilization of Client Communication;
- Escort defendants to the lab and supervise the collection of urine samples in accordance with accepted procedure;
- Present verified information to the judges of the Circuit and District Courts as a participant at the hearing;
- Access and analyze all pertinent criminal histories that include but is not limited to, CJIS, MVA, OBCIS II, METERS, OCMS, JPortal, MDEC, etc.;
- Contact references through various means to verify the defendant's residence, employment status, education, medical history, substance abuse, and all other pertinent information;
- Formulate an appropriate recommendation to be presented in court, based upon the defendant's risk to the community and the probability of appearance at all scheduled court hearings;
- Communicate and inform the Court, Clerk's Office, Defense Counsel, ASA, Records, Transportation, family and other interested parties of all proceedings, as requested and needed;
- Completed all relevant documents pertaining to the hearings and ensure that they are submitted to their respective agency;
- Respond to requests from Judges on matters pertaining to Bail status, Bench Warrants, and defendants under supervision;
- Contact community support agencies to obtain services for defendants under supervision who require treatment, housing, and other essential needs;
- Verify the participation of defendants under supervision who require treatment, housing and other essential needs;
- Perform duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle; and
- Perform duties in the Cae management Section, as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience organizing case files.
