Main Purpose of Job

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for the management and oversight of all non-clinical departments and functions for Western Maryland Hospital Center (WMHC) to include Security, Emergency Management, Nutritional Services, Life Safety, Maintenance, Plant Operations and Environmental Services. The COO serves on the Senior Leadership Team and the Governing Body and is responsible for implementing the mission, vision and core values. In addition, the COO is responsible for strategic planning, goal setting and forecasting future needs of WMHC. This position serves as an Appointing Authority and makes facility-wide decisions and is responsible for ensuring compliance with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations.

This position is considered Emergency Essential and may need to respond to emergencies outside of normal business hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and at least five years of professional experience. Three years of experience must have involved one or more of the following: supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations or responsibility for the development of policies and procedures.

Additional professional level experience can be substituted for the college degree at the rate of one year of experience for 30 credit hours, up to 120 credit hours.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates should possess the following:
  • Experience in the supervision and coordination of facilities management
  • Working knowledge of accreditation processes and standards interpretation, particularly involving environment of care, life safety and emergency management
