Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
Duties for this position include but are not limited to:
- Ensure proper functioning of building systems and equipment. Inspect and operate HVAC, electrical,
plumbing, life safety and other critical components within design
parameters. Keep buildings open at all
times for the transaction of essential State business.
- Utilize and maintain audio systems, remote systems as well as those
throughout the facility. Support the Governor and Lieutenant Governor for
events within and outside of the State House.
In some cases, repairs are performed during live broadcasts. The technician performing repairs must
possess a thorough understanding of computer electronics, digital transmission,
and software.
- Install and maintain audio systems through the facility as well as
remote/mobile audio systems. The
technician performing repairs is familiar with media broadcasting, public
announcement (PA) systems, and audio distribution.
- Complete tasks assigned via CMMS work orders. Respond to requests for building
repairs. Restore equipment to proper
operation. Identify the need for
additional building trades support and communicate with the building manager
for authorization to obtain assistance.
Coordinate with contractors to perform work requiring outside expertise.
- Complete preventive maintenance tasks on building equipment. Replace
filters, belts, hoses and other consumables. Inspect building components to
identify potential issues and prevent emergency repairs. Track maintenance
schedules and ensure work is done to industry standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency
certificate.
Experience: Three years of experience performing skilled trade work in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, locksmith, masonry, painting, or welding work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute additional years of experience for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong preference will be given to applicants who possess the
following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific
information on your application regarding all qualifications.
- Audio equipment, public announcement (PA) and media broadcasting
systems experience is strongly preferred.
- Skilled trades experience in a commercial building setting.
- Professional training, union certification or completion of a
certified/accredited training program in a skilled trade, apprenticeship
program, or vocational school is preferred.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
2. Employees in this classification who perform electrical work and are assigned to facilities that mandate licensed electricians must possess a current license as a Master Electrician or other appropriate electrician license from a local board or from the Maryland State Board of Master Electricians, 500 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202-3651.
3. Employees in this classification who perform work as a plumber must possess a Maryland Journeyman/Gas Fitter License.

examination for this position will consist of a rating of your education,
training and experience related to the requirements of the
position. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment
eligibility list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or
QUALIFIED. The eligibility list will be valid for one year and may be
extended. The list will be used by the hiring authority to select
employees for interviews. Eligible lists may be used to fill future vacancies of
the same classification.

note, selected candidates may be required to complete and successfully pass a
State and Federal fingerprint background check prior to being hired.
