Introduction
The Maryland State Retirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System (System). The System is a defined benefit retirement system covering governmental employees within the State of Maryland. The System is composed of twelve (12) separate retirement and pension systems with over 50 different rule sets. The System has over 397,000 participants (customers), including 192,000 members who are actively employed and participating in the System, 165,000 payees who receive a monthly payment from the System, and 40,000 vested members who are no longer actively employed but have earned a benefit that will become payable at a future date.
The agency is seeking to fill an Administrator I position in the Data Control Unit.
During the probationary period, this position will work 100% at the office of the Maryland State Retirement Agency. After the probationary/training period, and at the discretion of the Unit Director, this position may be eligible to telework one day per week.

Main Purpose of Job
This position serves as the lead worker on a small team of professional staff responsible for
performing various functions related to member contribution and service credit balances on
member accounts. This position assists the supervisor in hiring and training staff, reviewing and
approving the work of staff, assigning work to staff and tracking the status of all worked
assigned to the team, answering questions of staff and serving as a technical expert of matters
related to reviews of proper member contribution and service credit balances, and evaluating the
performance of staff.
POSITION DUTIES
This position serves as the lead worker on a small team in the Data Control Unit. The team is
primarily responsible for conducting reviews of member accounts to make sure that both service
credit and member contributions are correct prior to retirement. This team analyzes payroll data and conducts research to determine how to correct a member’s account. This includes researching
employment history, talking to employers and completing calculations. The reviews are conducted
in accordance with applicable laws and regulations governing the Agency. The team also processes
member requests to transfer their service credit and assists with fiscal and calendar year end tasks.
As the lead worker, this position will help the supervisor in providing assistance and training to the
team. This position will assist with the hiring of staff, assigning of work, tracking and reviewing of
work for staff and providing performance feedback.
The successful candidate must have an aptitude to solve problems and work with numbers.
Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work in a high-volume environment are also
a necessity.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Four years of administrative staff or professional work.

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for- year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
- Three years of demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office products (excel, word and outlook).
- Two years of demonstrated experience analyzing accounts/documents and making calculations based upon that analysis. (Examples: bank/accounting reconciliations, loan underwriting, calculating eligibility for health or other deductions, bookkeeping, etc.)

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
