Summer Student Worker: Graphic Design Interpretive Aide Intern
Part-Time (up to 32 hours per week)

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites eligible candidates to apply for an internship with the Maryland Park Service. This opportunity will provide hands-on experience in the field of parks, recreation, interpretation and environmental education.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to design a new “Junior Rangers” style activity booklet, based upon the Maryland Park Service’s Junior Rangers program curriculum. This will be used in State Parks across Maryland to provide self-guided educational opportunities. This position may also design promotional materials for other events and outreach, as well as assist the Chief of Interpretation with outreach and educational programming on weekends during the summer in State Parks.

This position will primarily work in the Annapolis area- MPS Headquarters Office, but may be involved with state-wide initiatives for the Maryland Park Service and may require occasional travel to Parks throughout the state of Maryland. 

 The internship runs 12 weeks between June-August. The specific start/end dates, hours, and schedule will be determined in collaboration between the intern and supervisor.

POSITION DUTIES


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must be a current college student, undergraduate or graduate level. A GPA of 2.5 or above is required for academic credit.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong graphic design skills with demonstrated proficiency in utilizing programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Publisher, Canva, and/or Adobe InDesign to create Junior Rangers booklet. 
  • Relevant major or minor (education, biology, environmental science, wildlife management, outdoor recreation, Parks & Recreation)
  • Proficiency in using Google workplace applications (Google docs, sheets, forms, etc.)
