Main Purpose of Job
Serves as a Human Resources liaison for the Maryland Park Service of the Department of
Natural Resources. Primary areas of responsibility include assisting the Park Service Personnel
Officer with personnel coordination, to include recruitment and hiring, reclassifications and
acting assignments; resolving customer service complaints both verbally and in writing; and
managing the MPS capital and sensitive inventory per state auditing regulations. This position
will be primarily responsible for overseeing the Park Service contractual (seasonal) hiring
recruitment and hiring process.

POSITION DUTIES
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Park Service, is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Officer III position that serves as a member of the headquarters customer service team and assists with personnel related duties. The incumbent will assist the Maryland Park Service Personnel Officer with duties associated with recruitment and hiring; reclassifications and acting assignments; resolving customer service complaints both verbally and in writing; and assisting with other administrative duties as assigned. The position requires the ability to multi-task and assist park staff with customer service related duties, good time management skills, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Duties include managing the contractual recruitment process for the Maryland Park Service and assisting with classified recruitments. Responsibilities include coordination with Park Managers to compile contractual recruitment documents, working with DNR’s Human Resources Service (HRS) to ensure timely posting of recruitments and submission of contracts, and submitting separations in a timely fashion once the contracts are expired. Develops and maintains working relationships, communication and contacts with HRS staff and all levels of park staff to ensure necessary cooperation and support. This position will also serve as a member of the headquarters customer service team and assist with responses to citizen inquiries, complaints and problem resolution. Additional duties may include the submission of General Loss and Liability forms and claims and, workers’ compensation paperwork, management of fleet documents, and fulfillment of state park product orders from the DNR online store.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years of administrative staff or professional work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to two years of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university for the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Excellent organizational skills and precise time management skills to efficiently manage multiple duties while meeting established deadlines
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and demonstrate flexibility
- One year of experience using Workday (Statewide Personnel System) working in a Human Resources related field
- Interest in learning about Maryland State Parks
- Two years of experience dealing with customers and the public in the following manners: telephone, e-mail, written correspondence, face to face contact.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
