Introduction

The Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families (DVMF) was created by the State Legislature in 1999 as an executive agency with the mission of assisting veterans, active duty service members, their families and dependents, in securing benefits earned through military service.

Under the Department of Veterans and Military Families are five major programs:

  • Service and Benefits Program
  • Charlotte Hall Veterans Home
  • Cemetery and Memorial Program
  • Communications, Outreach, & Advocacy Program’s 
  • Maryland Veterans Trust Fund

Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery
11501 Garrison Forest Road
Owings Mills, Maryland 21117

POSITION DUTIES

To help conduct all the tasks associated with the interment of veterans and their dependents and the maintenance of the cemetery grounds, buildings and equipment in accordance with state guidelines and national shrine standards.

Position Duties Include but are not limited to:

  • Gravesite preparation and closing
  • Gravesite maintenance and Headstone Installation
  • Grounds Maintenance
  • Maintenance of Buildings and Equipment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Completion of the Sixth grade.

Experience: None. 

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in general maintenance classifications or cemetery caretaking specialty codes in the general maintenance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

  • Experience in ground and building services.
  • Experience in power tools and various types of lawn equipment.
  • Experience in maintenance of various pieces of equipment, to include tractors, trucks and light equipment.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be required to apply and store pesticides. Such employees shall use or apply pesticides in compliance with Maryland State pesticide regulations and licensing requirements.
