Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor is accepting applications for the position of Administrative Specialist III. This position is responsible for providing administrative support for the executive director, and the members of the Maryland Board of Individual Tax Prepares (appointed by the Governor).  The administrative duties require: independent judgment and actions concerning applications for licensing, and auditing of continuing education for licensees from the Maryland Board of Public Accountancy, the Maryland Board of Individual Tax preparers, and the Maryland Board of Foresters. In addition, this position completes deposits for all three boards listed above, as well as Secondhand precious Metal objects Dealers and Pawnbrokers.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose is to provide administrative support or the executive Director, and the members of the Maryland Board of Individual Tax Preparers (appointed by the Governor). The administrative duties require: independent judgment and actions concerning applications for licensing, and auditing of continuing education for licensees from the Maryland Board of Public Accountancy, the Maryland Board of Individual Tax for all three boards listed above, as well as Secondhand Precious Metal Objects Dealers and Pawnbrokers.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties of this position may include, but are not limited to:
  • Prepares and maintains files relating t the Maryland Board of Individual Tax Prepares registrants, as well as being the main point of contact for the Board 
  • Conducts audits of continuing education certificates for Maryland Board of Public Accountancy, Maryland Board of Individual Tax Prepares, and Maryland Board of Foresters
  • Answers, and respond as appropriate, to telephone, emails, and in-person request for information regarding all aspects of the Maryland Board of Individual Tax Preparers, Maryland Board of Foresters and assisting with the Maryland Board of Accountancy and Secondhand Precious Metal Objects Dealers and Pawnbrokers
  • Accurately enters information and updates on the computer AS400, also records and prepares minutes ant meetings for the Maryland Board of Individual Tax Preparers

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work. 

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with Maryland Board of Individual Tax Preparers

Experience working with AS400

Experience working in professional licensing

Experience with customer service

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (MDL/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DLLR/DUI as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
