Main Purpose of Job
This position
is a full performance level of technical work involving the installation,
repair and maintenance of radio transmitters, receivers, communication
sub-systems, audio transport networks (microwave, Fiber optic & Il), voice
logging recorders and other related communication equipment, as well as
performing the same activities with speed control devices, in-car camera
systems and body worn cameras in accordance with Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) regulations and manufacture specifications.
POSITION DUTIES
Installation, removals, maintenance/repair of mobile &
portable radios, base stations, communication consoles, remote control units
along with other technologies such as in-car cameras, speed control devices,
in-car computers, voice logging recorders and body worn cameras. Installs de
removes equipment from vehicles and remote sites.
Maintains, repairs, and operates interoperability communications
systems at mobile and fixed sites, including microwave & fiber optic
systems.
Maintains/repairs and installs logging recorders, speed-control
equipment, and audio transport circuits.
Maintains accurate inventory and maintenance records on all
equipment in assigned area. Orders and maintains a sufficient number of parts
and supplies for the operation of the assigned radio shop. Maintains shop &
remote tower site cleanliness through regular cleaning (Ex. Dusting/mopping).
Maintains the accuracy of all electronic test equipment within the
limits specified by the manufacturer and the FCC.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school
equivalency certificate.
Experience: Five years of
experience in the repair of electronic communications equipment, four years
must have included the repair of two-way FM radios.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute
the successful completion of a one-year program of study in radio electronics
at a recognized training school, trade school, or college for up to one year of
the required general experience.
2. Candidates may
substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned
officer in Electronics Technician (Communications) classifications or Signal
Corps, Aerospace Maintenance, or Data/ Communications Maintenance specialty
codes in the aviation communications field of work on a year-for-year basis for
the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following
preferred qualifications. It is important that you include clear and specific
information on your application regarding your qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Five years of experience (maintenance, repair and
installation) with voice audio transport circuits (DS0) dealing with microwave,
fiber optics and T1 backhaul systems.
2. Experience with P25, TDMA Land Mobile Radio.
3. Experience performing maintenance of P25 Motorola
Communication Console
Systems.
4. Experience performing repairs/maintenance on any radar
and/or laser emitting
equipment.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Applicants for this classification may be required to
possess either a Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone
Operator license, a FCC Ship Radar Endorsement, a National Association of
Business and Educational Radio certificate, or an Associated Public Safety
Communications Officer Incorporated certificate. If license or certificate is
required, applicants must list their license or certificate number and
expiration date on the application.
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which
require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties
will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in
the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates for this
classification may be given a medical examination to determine their ability to
perform the duties of the job classification.
SELECTION PROCESS
Only candidates who meet the minimum
qualifications will be considered for this classification. Therefore, it is
essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your
application. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment Eligible
List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED and QUALIFIED and remain
eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination.
The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees.
EXAMINATION PROCESS
The examination will consist of a rating of
your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the
position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the
rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and education
that is related to this position. Applicants may be given a physical
examination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation,
polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.
