Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor, (MDOL), Division of Unemployment Insurance is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of UI Professional I. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year after the closing date of the announcement

Main Purpose of Job

Conduct interviews with individuals applying for unemployment insurance benefits to collect the necessary information for processing claims according to established guidelines. This ensures the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused services that regulate the distribution of unemployment benefits, ultimately supporting the state's economic stability.

POSITION DUTIES

Provide excellent customer service while answering questions and completing applications for
unemployment insurance benefits.
  •  Explain and interpret the laws governing unemployment insurance to employers,   claimants, and the public in a professional and courteous manner over the phone.   Address issues related to general eligibility, appeals procedures, severance pay, holiday   pay, confirmation of return to work, and other relevant topics.
  •  Collect and enter information to complete a claimant’s telephone application for   unemployment insurance benefits.
  •  Communicate with other states via the UIMAIL-ICON Network when necessary to   handle complex interstate claims.
  •  Ensure prompt and accurate payment of benefits by reviewing claim history to   identify   any incidents of unemployment insurance fraud.
  •  Identify, investigate, and resolve problems related to claims for unemployment   insurance benefits to keep individual claims up to date
  •  Review the information provided by claimants and employers to ensure that the   correct   employers are associated with the unemployment claim.
  •  Verify the accuracy of the claim once the filing process is complete.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Four years of experience in a public/or private agency rendering and/or determining eligibility for a Human Service Program or other programs.

Notes:

1. Employees previously hired through contracts by the agency as Intermittent IU Associates, Intermittent IU Specialists, Contributions Associates or Contributions Specialists and are currently performing the full range of UI Professional I duties and responsibilities may meet the minimum qualifications for appointment to merit system positions in this classification.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

(6) months of experience processing unemployment insurance claims.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This recruitment is limited to current employees of the Maryland Department of Labor.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Personnel employed in this classification will have access to federal tax information and must undergo a state and FBI criminal background check as a condition of employment.

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
