Main Purpose of Job

A Registered Nurse Manager (RNM), CI is the managerial level of work in planning and coordinating the provision of nursing for a nursing division for all shifts at Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center (CTPHC) where care is provided to mentally ill patients who have been judged not criminally responsible for committing felonies, and to those who are difficult to manage in a less secure setting and who have been deemed dangerous to themselves or others.  Employees in this classification directly supervise Registered Nurse Supervisors, CI and through them indirectly supervise Registered Nurse Charge, CI and subordinate staff.

Employee in this classification receive managerial supervision from an Assistant Director of Nursing, CI or Director of Nursing, CI.  RNM at CTPHC are subject to call-in and overtime is based on direct care staffing needs.  The responsibility principally include the day-to-day management of the nursing department but also includes regulatory compliance, standards of care compliance, scheduling compliance, management of personnel as assigned by the Assistant Director of Nursing, CI or Director of Nursing, CI

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include two years in a supervisory, administrative or consultative capacity and two years in a psychiatric setting.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree in Nursing or a health related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a psychiatric setting for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute six years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include three years in a supervisory, administrative or teaching capacity in a psychiatric setting for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

Preferred candidates should possess the following:

  • Ability to work through change management
  • Exceptional communication skills - written and verbal
  • Ability to work with a diverse employee base 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 or possess a current multi-state license in party states that candidates have declared as primary states of residence.  A copy of your license or license number and expiration date must accompany your application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

3. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
