Introduction

This position will work in the Main Office at the Frederick Campus of the Maryland School for the Deaf.

This is an 11 month position, school year position. This position does not work when school is closed during winter break, spring break, and during summer months.

Main Purpose of Job

This position performs a variety of complex secretarial, clerical, and office management duties for the Main Office.

POSITION DUTIES

Assist with the operations of the Frederick campus Main Office. Duties include assistance in maintaining school safety, school records, daily operations, student attendance data, performance reports and transportation, admissions and compliance with state and federal expectations.  The Main Office supports and collaborates closely with the Office of the Superintendent, Columbia Main Office teams, Office of Student Affairs, and support staff for individual school programs across both campuses.

Maintain front desk coverage, manage entry to the building for all visitors, issue I.D. badges and ensure visitors are escorted to their destination.

Collaborate with individual counties, MSD’s Columbia campus, Maryland school for the Blind, MSD’s IEP team, and families for the safe transportation of students to and from school.  Liaison with counties.

Maintain records and function as registrar for alumni and other stakeholders.

Coordinate and manage the printing and distribution of quarterly student report cards, merge letters from PowerSchool.

Collect and process all pertinent data and related forms, maintain and update student consent forms and act as the Database Manager for the student information system.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five years of experience in administrative or professional work. Strong English writing skills required.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Proficient in or able to carry a conversation in American Sign Language.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard on a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
