Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual community who in partnership with families, provides an equitable and exemplary education in a nurturing, engaging, and challenging environment to ensure our students achieve personal excellence and become lifelong learners. As such, we are looking for dedicated individuals who can join us in the education of the children at MSD.
This is an 11-month position.
LOCATION OF POSITION
MSD, Frederick Campus, 101 Clarke Place, Frederick, MD 21705
Main Purpose of Job
To
assist the coaches with athletic injuries; attend practices and home athletic
events; maintain a well-equipped, clean training room, work with the Student
Health Center regarding illnesses and injuries of student/athletes; adhere to
the policies and procedures outlined in the MSD Parent/Student Handbook;
maintain professional training and/or certification; and assume other
responsibilities as designated by the Athletic Director.
This position will report to the Athletic Director.
POSITION DUTIES
To
provide care and prevention of athletic injuries; attend Varsity, Junior
Varsity and Middle School practices and home athletic events; maintain a well
equipped, clean training room; work with the Student Health Center regarding
illnesses and injuries of student/athletes. Possess strong communication,
interpersonal, and organizational skills. Perform evaluations and diagnoses
and/or make referrals, provide emergency care, and educate athletes, coaches,
and parents about injury prevention. Strong knowledge of maintaining accurate
records of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation plans. Ensure compliance
with regulations and guidelines. Exhibit strong communication skills, a deep
understanding of sports-related injuries, and the ability to work
collaboratively with coaches, medical professionals, and athletes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Maintain
current certification and continuing education requirements as set forth by the
National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification; maintain current
state license in accordance with Maryland. Maintain current certification in
CPR/First aid.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or a related field.
- NATA (National Athletic Trainers Association) Certification required; from the Board of Certification (BOC)
- State license in accordance with Maryland; willingness to obtain certification required
- First Aid and CPR certification.
Fluency in written English required.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree
Ability to communicate in American
Sign Language
Previous experience working with
athletes in a high school, college or professional setting.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)
