Introduction
The Department of Information Technology (DoIT)
leads the State in the creation and implementation of information technology
solutions that improve IT infrastructure and government services and keep
Maryland current within IT industry trends.

Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
- Creating a Cloud Product -implementation of cloud-based solution; this entails working with stakeholders to understand their business needs, picking the right cloud technologies, and designing solutions supporting agencies objectives.
- Carrying Out Disaster Recovery - Developing and implementing backup and recovery plans; execute procedures for regaining data and services to minimize disruptions and loss of information in the case of an infrastructure failure.
- Modifying and Improving Existing Systems - regularly assess the performance, security, and scalability of existing cloud systems and identify areas for enhancement. This may involve optimizing resource utilization, implementing automation solutions to streamline processes, or upgrading infrastructure components to meet evolving business requirements.
- Plan, design and implement security services with cloud enablement (Control Tower, Landing Zone, Logs (SEIM) and Audits), NIST, Center for Internet Security 1 & 2. Adhere to security compliance requirements that meet customer requirements (ex: HIPAA, PCI, FTI, PHI)
- Project Work: perform cloud security risk assessments and remediation recommendations; develop test plans, implementation plans, and project timelines for various projects; Manage and work closely with technology vendors.
- Enhance our cloud capability by creating and implementing cloud application patterns:
ü Develop and implement ways to move apps and workloads to the cloud
ü Work closely with business leads and product owners to understand solution requirements and identify architectural patterns
ü Write and develop cloud automation playbooks for managing and scaling containers, hosts, cloud services, and applications
ü Help other development and engineering teams resolve application to platform integration issues for Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) services
ü Research and propose solutions for AWS data transformation, data connections, operational frameworks, and application integration
ü Work closely with lead architects and engineers to create and maintain architectural templates and build/operational documents
ü Work with DevOps and engineering teams to develop service catalogs
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Eight years of experience
designing and implementing complex data communications or telecommunications
networks.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute a
bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or
university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems,
Computer Science or other information technology related field of study to
include coursework in database management systems for up to four
years of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute
additional graduate education at an accredited college or university, at the
rate of thirty credit hours for each year of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute
the U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Database Administration
classifications or Database Administration specialty codes in the Information
Technology field of work on a year for year basis for the required experience
and education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to
candidates who have one or more of the following skillsets or experience:
Five
(5) years of experience as a Cloud Lead Engineer with strong knowledge of cloud
architecture patterns, scripting knowledge and proven experience in designing,
implementing, migrating and maintaining multi-cloud solutions.
Four
(4) years’ experience with microservices like Function as a Service,
Containers, and managed databases.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for this classification may handle sensitive

background investigation prior to appointment.

Employees may occasionally be required to travel
to field locations and must have access to an automobile in the event a state
vehicle cannot be provided. Standard mileage allowance will be paid for use of
a privately owned vehicle.
