POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of the Activity Therapist Associate I position includes the responsibility for assessment, planning, implementing and performing therapeutic recreation in the treatment of aged, mentally ill, physically disabled and or physically ill patients.  The Activity Therapist Associate I assists with planning a diverse monthly TR calendar. Researches and provides new ideas/programs to the Therapeutic Supervisor. Assists with preparing equipment and tearing down/cleaning up equipment daily for scheduled TR programs. Transports residents to and from programs. Evaluates equipment and ensures safety of equipment being utilized. Conducts and leads planned TR programs and individual TR activities. Assists with community reintegration outings. Assists with completing daily documentation in the Resident TR attendance book and entering minutes. Observes residents during activities and reports any behavioral observations or changes to the Therapeutic Recreators and or TR Supervisor.  Participates in daily huddles and other treatment team meetings.  Operation of Center vehicles necessary to provide a full range of off grounds leisure activities and community reintegration programs. Completes required training, education courses and competencies within established timeframes in order to comply with regulatory requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Two years of experience assisting in the implementation of prescribed activity therapy programs under the supervision of a healthcare professional to include assisting in patient/client assessments for patients/clients that have behavioral health diagnoses, are aged, physically ill, have physical disabilities, or have intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university, with at least 15 credit hours in health services, human services, education or the behavioral sciences for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Therapy classifications or Therapy specialty codes in the Therapeutic Recreation field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Employees in some positions in this classification may be required to operate vehicles which require a Class “C” motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

3. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation training.

4. Employees in this classification at facilities with a swimming pool may be required to obtain Red Cross instruction and certification in Life Saving and Water Safety prior to appointment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
