Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Service Specialist. This skilled position serves as a Service Specialist for the Department of Labor. A Services Specialist is the full performance level of work directing one or more general services functions such as but not limited to:  building, housekeeping, grounds keeping services; risk management; fleet management; forms management; mail/courier services; inventory, purchasing and supplies; clerical services; receptionist/switchboard; records management; reproduction services; security service; space allocations; and telecommunications for State departments, agencies or facilities.

Main Purpose of Job

This position encompasses multiple areas of responsibility and is requisite to providing excellence in customer services provided by the Office of General Services (OGS). The main purpose of this position is (1) to coordinate and administer OGS' printing and forms program for the 1,800-employee force of the Department of Labor; (2) to provide analytical support to the Central Supply Unit, including ADPICS/FMIS direction relative to activities in the Central Supply; (3) to utilize the State's FMIS system to place printing and supply orders. This position relates to the agency's mission in that it provides consistent and dependable support for LABOR employees who, through their efforts, provide economic stability to the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Liaison between all LABOR units to receive and process printing requests from all LABOR staff. These requests require review to determine where the jobs should be sent for completion. Factors such as deadlines, the sensitivity of the material, vendors' abilities to respond to specialized requirements, and existing printing projects are all taken into account.

  • Plans and develops work plans to achieve quick turn-around time on critical print requests whose information is vital to citizens' needs. Ability to make critical decisions to choose the correct printing vendor to meet the job's specific requirements for time, quality, and cost.

  • Formulates workflow processes required to manage the voluminous forms required by the agency. Manage all of the LABOR division's forms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience in general services functions, office administration activities or in the receiving, storing, issuance, purchase or requisition of equipment, materials, and parts and supplies.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience as stated above on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in logistics specialist classifications or administrative support specialty codes in the logistics field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

2.One year experience with spreadsheets utilizing Google Drive.

3.Lifting of 50lbs or more (boxes, equipment, etc.
