Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
Performs preventative
maintenance, construction and repair work at the semi-skilled level in several
trades;
Prepares walls for
painting;
Erects temporary or
permanent fencing;
Trains and leads
Maintenance Mechanics, semi-skilled and unskilled workers
May operate
automobiles, pick-up and panel trucks, tractors, and power mowers;
May inspect buildings
and grounds for adherence to institutional safety and sanitary regulations;
Performs other duties
as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Eighth grade.
Experience: Four years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades, three years must be in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steam fitting, refrigeration or air conditioning.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field for up to three years of the required general experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s).

1. Experience in determining
actions to be taken for repairs and/or in an emergency situation

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
SELECTION PROCESS
Only candidates who
meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification.
Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information
on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment
Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED and QUALIFIED and
remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of
examination. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees.
EXAMINATION PROCESS
The examination will
consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the
requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications
supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all
experience and education that is related to this position. Applicants may be
given a physical examination and will be subject to an interview, background
investigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.
