Main Purpose of Job
Police Communications
Operators will provide the full performance level of police communications work
within the Department of General Services-MD Capitol Police (DGS-MCP). This
will be accomplished by operating the Computer Assisted Dispatch/Records Management
System (CAD/RMS) and multi-channel police radio equipment.
This is an emergency essential classification subject to emergency release procedures. Employees in this classification must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night and are required to remain or report for duty at such hours as needed to maintain the continuous operation of this agency. If you are the selected candidate for this position, you will be required to complete a pre-employment physical, which will assess your ability to safely perform the essential functions of this position.
POSITION DUTIES
Duties for this
position include but are not limited to:
- Receive and transmit
information via multi-channel radio; information must be recorded accurately
within the CAD/RMS.
- Receive, direct and
handle all telephone communications coming into the Police Communications
Center; information must be recorded accurately within the CAD/RMS.
- Monitor security
cameras for criminal or suspicious activity and dispatch appropriate personnel.
- Monitor intrusion
alarms, fire alarms, parking lot access control, and respond appropriately.
- Operate NCIC/MILES
terminal and provide requested information in a timely manner.
- Responsible for
maintaining shift reports, NCIC, MILES log and other paperwork required.
- Any duty or
responsibility required to allow DGS-MCP the ability to fulfil its overall
mission.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: None.
Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Operations Specialist classifications or Signal Corps, Cyberspace Support, or Communications specialty codes in the communications field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong preference will
be given to applicants that possess the following preferred qualification(s).

accredited university in relevant field of study

BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED. The eligibility list will be valid for
one year and may be extended. The list will be used by the hiring
authority to select employees for interviews. Eligible lists may be used to
fill future vacancies of the same classification.

candidates may be required to complete and successfully pass a State and
Federal fingerprint background check prior to being hired.
