Introduction

This is a contractual, position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

Main Purpose of Job

A Building Services Worker is the full performance level of work in providing maintenance, housekeeping and general services for State buildings. Employees in this classification do not supervise other positions. Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a Building Services Supervisor or other housekeeping supervisory position. Employees may be subject to call-in on a 24-hour basis. Employees in this classification may be assigned to day, evening, night or rotating shifts which may include weekends and holidays based on staffing needs. Employees may be exposed to noisy, dirty and uncomfortable conditions, such as extreme heat and cold temperatures. The work may require the use of protective equipment such as gloves, masks, respirators, goggles, back braces and safety shoes when performing maintenance duties. Employees may be required to work in confined spaces and at various heights and move heavy objects. The Building Services Worker is differentiated from the Building Services Supervisor in that the Building Services Worker performs the full range of duties and responsibilities under general supervision while the Building Services Worker Supervisor has supervisory responsibility for Building Services Workers.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this position. Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Report all education and experience related to the essential functions of this position.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must be provided prior to hire.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
