Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of the position is to provide a complete range of administrative and secretarial support duties to the Barrack Commander, Assistant Commander, Criminal Section Commander as well as uniform and civilian personnel assigned to the Berlin Barrack. This includes working in coordination with allied law enforcement agencies and the public. All work is required to be executed in an unsupervised fashion and necessitates a strong understanding of the Department's directives. The position requires the skills necessary for the enhancement of Barrack efficiency, enabling the Maryland State Police to fulfill the mission of improving the quality of life for the citizens of Maryland.
POSITION DUTIES
Responsible for typing confidential material for Berlin Barrack Command Staff as well as troopers. This includes preparation of detailed reports and endorsements pertaining to complaints against personnel and employee evaluations;
Prepares routine and non-routine letters of appreciation, endorsements, detailed reports, Special Orders, Form 17's, and routing slips;
Maintains the Barrack Special Orders and Standard Operating Procedures file in accordance with MSP directives;
Responsible for the daily processing of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Reports, Incident Reports, Vehicle Reports and Accident Reports;
Collect and format the enforcement statistics for monthly reports; Utilizes Report Management System to verify monthly motor vehicle mileage and vehicle service;
Maintain Barrack files with updated information on a daily basis; keep files organized and purge in accordance with the Department Filing and Retention Schedule;
Responsible for preparing, updating and distributing organizational charts, personnel rosters and vehicle rosters. This form is to be updated by the 24th of each month and forwarded to the Barrack Commander
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Four years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties.
Notes:
1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Two years of experience providing secretarial support to an official, administrator or administrative staff
2. Experience independently preparing correspondence and statistical reports
3. Experience working at the Federal, State, County or local levels of government

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard on a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
SELECTION PROCESS

Successful candidates will be placed on an Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of the examination. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees. The list will be valid for one year.

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be be based on your application. Report all experience and education that is related to this position. Applicants may be given a physical examination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.
