Introduction

Main Purpose of Job

Ensure that all children with disabilities have a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) that emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living.

Implement transition services outlined within the student’s Transition plan, a part of the student’s Individualized Education Plan. Work closely with the Transition Coordinators to Support the Transition Activities identified on the transition plan

POSITION DUTIES

Provide Pre Employment Transition Services to Middle and High School students. Review student’s IEP, Transition Assessments and Transition Activities.  Assist students with the job application process, provide job readiness training and assist with understanding the payroll process. Provide mentorship to students at worksites. Provide transportation from the school to the job site and back to school. Assist the transition coordinators with providing additional Pre ETS services such as Job Exploration Counseling, Self Advocacy Training, Postsecondary Education Counseling and mentorship for work experiences. Complete Work Based Learning Experience reports required by Division of Rehabilitation Services. Maintains professional competence through in service, workshops, training and other professional development activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School degree with strong background working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. Verbal and written communication skills are at sufficient levels to ensure effective communication.

Maryland Driver’s license. Lifting may be required when working with students. Periods of time standing while mentoring students at worksites.

This is a contractual position with a pay of $23.00 per hour.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of the Deaf culture, Deaf Education required

Must be fluent in ASL and written English.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)

 

Candidates will need to provide three letters of recommendation with their application.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
