Introduction
The Maryland School for
the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual community who in partnership with
families, provides an equitable and exemplary education in a nurturing,
engaging and challenging environment to ensure our students achieve personal
excellence and become lifelong learners. As such, we are looking for
dedicated individuals who can join us in the education of the children at MSD
during our extended school year program.
Extended School Year (ESY) means an
individualized extension of specific services beyond the regular school year
that is designed to meet specific goals included in a student’s Individual
Education Plan (IEP). The program will take place Monday through Thursday from
7:45 am to 11:45 am starting July 11th and ending on July 28, 2022. One
additional half day, prior to the program starting, will be required for
setting up the classroom and lesson planning.

Main Purpose of Job
Implement individual educational programs and teach deaf students with varying degrees of intellectual, academic and physical needs. Create lesson plans to address each student’s individual needs and report on student progress at the conclusion of the services. Make every attempt to maintain academic/social and behavioral skills for each student Collect data for tracking progress on students’ IEP goals and objectives. Complete progress reports for each assigned student at the conclusion of services. Work in conjunction with the Student Support Specialist and Assistant Principals to implement behavior intervention plans as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree required.
Fluency in American Sign Language and written English required.
Knowledge of students with additional disabilities and ability to teach students at different educational levels and with varying educational skills is required.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and
understanding of the Deaf Community is preferred.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
MD State Teacher
Certification required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Copy of MD
Teacher Certification must be submitted with application.
New hires are subject to a criminal background
investigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1,

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
