Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this job is to provide spiritual and pastoral leadership for the benefit of Springfield Hospital patients, and to provide a pastoral environment that is caring and actively responsive to all elements of human dignity. This position is based upon the premise that human beings are a single entity comprising body, mind and spirit. The mission of this position is to enhance mental health through supporting and strengthening the spiritual side of the patient population that we serve. Supports the mission of the organization through active participation in clinical efforts to provide treatment in a recovery-oriented environment. The foundation of a recovery-oriented environment is respect and a commitment to safety in the least restrictive manner possible. This position is considered an Essential Emergency Employee.

POSITION DUTIES

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provides pastoral care ministry to patients and staff members requesting services. 
  • Provides regularly scheduled organized religious functions to all patients who request it. 
  • Participates in hospital-wide functions in order to promote a pastoral-spiritual environment that is caring and responsive to all elements of human dignity. 
  • Participates in ongoing Performance Improvement and special projects as requested. This is done through analysis of treatment and program outcomes and participation in Performance Improvement teams.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a Master's of divinity degree from a recognized theological seminary or equivalent and be ordained or commissioned to function in a ministry.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates should possess the following:

  • Board certified chaplain.
  • Experience in chaplaincy and ministry.
  • Experience working with the mentally ill.

This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.
