Main Purpose of Job

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for a Paralegal to provide support to the attorney who represents the Charles County Department of Social Services (“CCDSS”) and to assist the CCDSS’ child welfare and adult services supervisors and workers in filing legal petitions. 

POSITION DUTIES

The job duties of this position include, but are not limited to: preparation of various legal documents and correspondence on routine legal issues, gathering information and preparing records, filing pleadings with the court, and legal research, all under the general supervision of the CCDSS attorney.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.  

Experience: Three years of experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary performing legal research or preparing legal documents on behalf of an attorney. 

Notes:

1. A certificate in paralegal studies or 30 credit hours from an accredited college or law school may be substituted for the required experience. 
2. Additional years of experience as stated above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.  

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office skills.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience conducting legal research and interprets and analyzes law sources in order to prepare legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, appeals and contracts.
