Introduction
The Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for a contractual Paralegal II at the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development located in Lanham, MD.

Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is to assist the Assistant Attorneys General assigned to represent the Department of Housing and Community Development in legal matters involving the Department. The person employed in this position will be expected to exercise significant responsibility and independence in reviewing and preparing loan documents, real estate legal documents, title work files, and tracking and filing due diligence materials. In addition, this position may involve personal contact and/or email correspondence with the Department staff, developers, lenders, attorneys and others involved in the closing process for project financing.
POSITION DUTIES
Position responsibilities primarily will include commercial lending and real estate transactions. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to: drafting loan and grant documents; assisting at loan closings; tracking and reviewing pre-closing and post-closing loan and grant documents; document and scheduling management; closing binder preparation; and general office support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduated from an accredited high school, or possess a high school equivalency certificate
Experience: Minimum of three years’ experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary drafting and reviewing legal documents on behalf of an attorney.
Notes:
1. Thirty college credit hours or a certificate in paralegal studies from an accredited college or law school may be substituted for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word or comparable word processing and computer skills
2. Draft correspondence on routine legal issues

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
