Main Purpose of Job

The mission of the Maryland Board of Physicians (MBP) is to assure quality health care in Maryland through the efficient licensure and effective discipline of health providers under its jurisdiction, by protecting and educating clients/customers and stakeholders, and enforcing the Maryland Medical Practice Act. The main purpose of the Compliance Analyst Associate is to directly support MBP's mission by assisting in the investigation of cases and other compliance issues and questions of various stages and levels of investigation.

Other duties assigned, but not limited to: 

-Assisting the Intake Unit with the preliminary investigation stage of the Board's process, assisting in the full investigation stage and the compliance issues in referrals from the Allied Health and Licensure Units of the Board in connection with applications for initial licensure and reinstatement of licensure. Other duties assigned, but not limited to: 
- Learning to provide assistance in the investigation of compliance cases and compliance issues. In order to do this, the individual will subpoena medical records, quality assurance files, physician credentialing files, drug surveys, and other materials
- Preparing and proofreading letters and other communications and requests for response from physicians and/or their attorneys; learning to prepare cases, issues, and questions for review by the Board medical consultants, experts, peer reviewers and Disciplinary Panels of the Board. 
- Learning to orally present assigned casework to the Board or committee of the Board. 
- Learning to provide assistance in the monitoring and investigation of all Criminal History Record Checks received by the Board and will assist in investigating positive responses to “character and fitness” on license renewals. 
- Learning to coordinate peer/expert reviews in accordance with the Peer Review/Expert Review Mandatory Guidelines for Compliance Analysts and the Compliance Analyst Associate; entering FSMB report information into the profile database and obtaining underlying documents; monitor mandated 10-day reports; monitor Practitioner Profile emails; and assist in the review of affirmative responses on renewal application.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:  Four years of experience conducting investigations in the area of health care, insurance, medical malpractice or other related investigative experience as defined by the Maryland Board of Physicians.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Legal or Investigator classifications or Legal or Investigator specialty codes in the Investigation field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:
- Experience conducting research and analytical writing
- Experience with legal terms and documents
- Experience presenting oral presentations
- Experience interpreting laws and regulations
- Experience as a paralegal
