Introduction

The Division of Early Childhood Development will have both permanent and contractual vacancies for the State of Maryland. This recruitment is to fill the permanent positions. If you are open to interviewing for permanent and contractual positions, you must apply to both.

GRADE

State of Maryland Salary Grade 13 $ 55,656 - Bargaining Unit "F"


After 1 year of training and successful completion of the probationary period, the salary will increase to Grade 15/ Step 9 $63,187 (Salary figures effective Nov. 1, 2022).

LOCATION OF POSITION

This is a statewide regional recruitment to fill multiple positions as well as future vacancies for the following areas: 

- Baltimore Metro Area - [Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel, Harford/Cecil, Howard/Carroll]
- Eastern Shore- [Upper and Lower Shore including Queen Anne's, Dorchester, Talbot, Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, Caroline, Dorchester]
- Western MD- [Frederick, Washington, Alleghany, Garrett]
- DC Metro Area [Montgomery, Prince Georges]
- Southern MD [Calvert, Charles, St Mary's]

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the position is to support the Office of Child Care’s goal of protecting the health, safety, and welfare of children in child care settings outside their own homes through the licensure of child care centers, the issuance of Letters of Compliance to certain religious child care programs, the registration of family day care homes, and the approval of nonpublic nursery schools and the investigation of complaints lodged against legitimate and illegal child care providers.

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of the position is to support the Office of Child Care’s goal of protecting the health, safety, and welfare of children in child care settings outside their own homes through the licensure of child care centers, the issuance of Letters of Compliance to certain religious child care programs, the registration of family day care homes, and the approval of nonpublic nursery schools and the investigation of complaints lodged against legitimate and illegal child care providers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related fields of study from an accredited four year college or university.

Experience: None 

Note: 
  1. Possession of an associate’s degree in early childhood development, teacher education, sociology, psychology or related fields of study, and two years of work experience in early childhood education or child care settings, including but not limited to inspecting, licensing, teaching, mentoring within child care centers, family child care homes or nonpublic nursery schools may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree. 
  2. The above requirements are set by the Maryland State Department of Education in accordance with Education Article, Section2-104.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications:

  •  Microsoft Office Suite experience  
  •  Experience communicating with customers of diverse backgrounds 
  •  Experience using data systems

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Applicants for this classification must consent to State Police and Child Protective Services (CPS)Investigations/Background Checks as a routine procedure for all employees required to work with Child Care Services Facilities. Proof of eligibility to work in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act and travel throughout the state are required. Any misrepresentation of academic or experience requirements for this position may result in non-selection or termination of employment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires a Valid Driver's License because you may need to drive a State vehicle and/or your personal vehicle to site visits.
