Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for developing and managing the department's Oracle relational databases and related documentation used to track and query data for the department and allied agencies. The position will supervise the migration, operation, maintenance, and backups of the Oracle relational database systems in the department.

POSITION DUTIES

Monitor database performance

Perform routine maintenance of databases

Perform database backups and recovery

Install, configure, patch and maintain Oracle software on Unix environment focusing on Red Hat Linux platform

Manage the file system on Red Hat Linux platform

Configure and maintain Oracle Data Guard and Oracle Audit Logs

Monitor systems capacity and allocate space according to overall needs

Implement CLIENT database security standards for Oracle database environment

Tune database parameters for optimal system performance

Assist developers and DBAs in detecting performance problems including analysis of SQL and PL/SQL code

Provide continuous monitoring, troubleshooting, historical and real time performance monitoring of the Oracle environments

Diagnose and resolve data problems for system users, storage problems, access problems, and software problems

Document database back-up policy

Document database systems configuration and maintenance details as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Five years of experience, one year of experience designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and controlling database management systems for computers and an additional four years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or maintaining and modifying operating systems for computers.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate plus thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology-related field to include course work in database management systems for the additional four years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or maintaining and modifying operating systems for computers.

2. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and one year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or maintaining and modifying operating systems for computers for the additional four years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute possession of experience operating computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining a tape library to process data on computer systems; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages on a year-for-year basis for graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

4. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology related field to include course work in database management systems and one year of experience designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and controlling database management systems for computers for the required experience.

5. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Database Administration classifications or Database Administration specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications. 


5+ years of professional experience as an Oracle DBA


Significant experience with Oracle 12c and 19c architecture and database design on Linux


Experience with development and other solution teams on DB architecture and design


Knowledge/experience in writing and optimizing SQL and PL/SQL scripts, stored procedures, functions and views


Knowledge/experience with Oracle Multitenant architecture (CDB/PDB)


Experience with backup, recovery, patching, upgrades, tuning, capacity planning and optimization of database environments


Experience using Oracle Data Guard


Knowledge of Oracle database administration on ODA platforms


Working knowledge of Oracle database Enterprise Manager Grid Control and/or Cloud Control Oracle OCP or OCM certification(s)


Experience working with law enforcement databases

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees. The list will be valid for one year.

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and education that is related to this position.
