Introduction

The Computer Network Specialist will provide computer and telecommunications support to the employees of the Office of the Attorney General in the central administrative offices in Baltimore, Maryland, General Assembly offices in Annapolis, Maryland and the Consumer Protection Division field offices in Salisbury, Largo, and Hagerstown.

Main Purpose of Job

This position provides computer and telecommunications support to the employees of the Office of the Attorney General in the central administrative offices in Baltimore as well as offices in Annapolis, Salisbury, Largo and Hagerstown. Job duties include, but are not limited to: diagnosing hardware and software problems, making repairs or adjustments, working with outside vendors, diagnosing and assisting users with network problems, developing macros and templates based on user needs, working in databases, developing and conducting training and training manuals and instructions, installing, configuring, testing and evaluating new software. Incumbent will participate in on-call schedule for after-hours and weekend support.

POSITION DUTIES

This position will perform the following job duties: diagnose hardware and software problems, make repairs or adjustments, work with outside vendors, diagnose and assist users with network problems, develop macros and templates based on user needs, work in databases, develop and conduct training and training manuals and instructions, install, configure, test and evaluate new software. Note: The incumbent will participate in on-call schedule for after-hours and weekend support.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer information technology, management information systems or other information technology related field, to include course work in local or wide area computer networks, from an accredited college or university. 

Experience: Six months of experience planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks. 

Note: Applicants may substitute 4 years of related experience for education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience diagnosing problems with computer software and/or computer hardware and making repair/adjustments. 

2. Experience with desktop deployment and troubleshooting.
