POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to assist the Dental Health Program Manager in fulfilling the dental program mission to protect, promote and provide for the health of Anne Arundel County residents by serving in the following functions: providing dental consultation and clinical dental treatment under the direction and supervision of the Dental Program Manager.

Other duties assigned, but not limited to:
--Conducting oral examinations of clients, developing treatment plans and performing clinical dental services including, but not limited to, restorative, surgical, periodontal, endodontic, prosthetic and emergency procedures.  Referring patients to community resources for treatment when indicated and following up on patient treatment.

--Supporting the Program Manager in maintaining the clinical facilities and maintaining OSHA and MOSH standards. Assuring cleanliness of rooms, instruments, and equipment.  Helping review policies and procedures, recommending updates as appropriate.  Advising the Program Manager of problems with equipment, supply ordering, and staff concerns. Making sure regular maintenance is performed. Ensuring work and supply orders are accurate and placed in a timely manner. May act as a resource for resolving conflicts between staff and other entities. Providing other services and assistance to the Program Manager as needed and directed.  Assisting with clinic related statistical analysis and reporting.  Assisting with scheduling, rescheduling, and maintaining a proper patient flow.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the State Board of Dental Examiners under the licensing requirements for Dentists.

Experience: Two years of experience in the practice of dentistry.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute possession of a Master’s degree in Public Health for one year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Dental Officer classifications or Dental Corpsman or Officer specialty codes in the dental field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate will possess:
--Experience treating children
--Experience treating adolescents

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Dentist from the State Board of Dental Examiners, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215-2299.

2. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess or be eligible to obtain controlled substances registration certificates issued by the federal government and the State of Maryland in order to prescribe narcotic medication.

3. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete training in and maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Applicants for this classification may be given a medical examination prior to appointment to determine their ability to perform the work of the position.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
